Pregnenolone
Pregnenolone, which is produced in the adrenal gland, has numerous protective, health-promoting properties. For starters, it keeps the brain working at peak capacity and is a natural antidepressant. It enhances mood, energy, memory, concentration, creates a sense of well-being, and improves tolerance to stress. Because pregnenolone is a potent memory enhancer, declining levels of the hormone, which occurs with aging, can lead to decreased cognitive ability. Pregnenolone is a precursor to various hormones, such as progesterone, DHEA, testosterone, and estrogen. Therefore, an adequate supply is crucial at all times because reduced amounts of pregnenolone may result in an imbalance of all other hormones. Another important function of pregnenolone is its ability to block and reverse the adverse effects of cortisol. Pregnenolone deficiencies have been associated with diminished brain function and dementia.
Pregnenolone supplementation has been found to be helpful in individuals with autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, and depression. Current research is being done to determine if pregnenolone has beneficial effects or those suffering with Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, cardiovascular problems, and immune system dysfunction.
